American Soldier

Image
    1.  I believe this image is one of the most powerful images for this story, because this was the moment that he confirmed he was joining the army. One he pledged, his life was going to change forever. He was taking on the unknown, and going to be fighting a dangerous fight. He signed up as violence was spiking in Iraq. He knew he had a battle ahead of him. 2. The images work together to tell a story because they go in chronological order and take us through his journey of becoming apart of the military. They begin with him making the final decision of joining the army, and the photographer captures all of the obstacles along the way. The images really show us what life is like once you commit to the army. You can tell what the story is just by looking at the images. 3. The captions enhance the photographs because they explain any emotions shown in the images. Also they give you background information that you wouldn't of understood by just looking at the photo. They tie t

Rules of Photography Part 2

Avoiding Mergers - The shovel is being partially cropped out of the image. This creating a merger for the photo.  Cropping - This is cropping because the palm tree was cropped so that it was the only focus of the image. It was tightly cropped so that it was the only subject for the photo.  Framing- This image shows framing because the trees act as a frame around the water.  Create Depth - This image creates depth because the land has different layers to it. It has a foreground and a background. This gives the photo an illusion of depth.  Background - This photo follows the rules of background because the background is not distracting or interfering with the main subject of the photo. Also the background is simple and blurred out, so your eyes are automatically drawn towards the bird that's in focus.  Viewpoint - This image is taken from a birds eye view. This creates a background story for the photo, so you know where the photo was taken and it's full pers

1. My wife, kids, and pets left me. At least I was able to throw together some of the stuff they didn't leave with. And now I would say I am ready to pursue my dream of being a musician.   3.   Who said cigarettes shorten your life? Mildred Patterson is turning triple digits and still has her lungs. However, right after she blew out her candles she did have to make a quick trip to the hospital. 2. This maze is located in San Diego, California. This is considered one of the hardest mazes to escape from. No one has EVER managed to get out of this maze. And not because you can't find the exit, but because you can't even remember starting it.

Abandoned Theme Parks

1. I would want to visit the Holy Land, Waterbury, Connecticut, USA. This one caught my attention because it doesn't look like your average theme park. It was created to look like a little town that resembled a version of Bethlehem, Jerusalem. There were over 200 unique structure's that were created by a guy named John Greco. It seems like a very interesting place to get some very creepy photos. All of the different buildings give the park a very unique scenery. Also the arch that would welcome visitors in particularly caught my eye. It appears to be made out of stone and the gates out of rustic metal. This entry gives the whole park a very unpleasant vibe. Overall, this theme park would be a very fascinating and unique place to take some spooky photos. 3. Five other unusual places I think would interest photographers would be to shoot at a hospital, funeral home, old fashioned restaurant, nursing home and a haunted house. photo taken in a psychiatric hospital  5.

Mural Project Preview

1) Three ideas that I have in my mind for the mural project would be nature, colors, or expressions. My idea for nature would be to take pictures of all the different aspects of nature. For example, the people in my team could be in charge of a different topic that relates to nature and then when we put them all together they could create the illusion of one photo. My idea for color could be everyone has a certain color they are assigned and they shoot a bunch of different objects that relate to that. And lastly, my idea for expressions is that my group picks one expression for example, happy, and then each team member shoots things and objects that show happy. 2) Three things I will have to keep in mind when shooting in Manual is the aperture, iso, and shutter speed. All these things I will be able to control and have to adjust in order to take the perfect photo. 3) Ways my team could produce this product online could be with Prezi, Google Slideshow, or Powerpoint. All of these we

1. I really like how he gets so close to the animals. This gives us a better idea about what the animal is like and his personality. Also I love how dedicated Brandt is to his photos. He has waited 18 days to just stand and watch a lion before taking the perfect shot. All of his photos are very simple, yet they tell a great story. Many of his photos are taken of all of the various animals in Africa and show what kind of environment they are in. Some of these animals are endangered, so Brandt does a great job of capturing the beauty of these animals. And lastly, all of Brandt's photos are in black and white. This gives the photos a more dramatic appeal. 2. 3. This is a photo of a female lion in the dry, empty land of Africa. She has a very strong stance, and a determined look on her face. She looks like the head female of a pack. She does not appear to be weak, and looks like she can take care of her own being. I liked this photo because it is very simple, yet it tells us so

Warm Up

1. When looking through these images, I knew that something tragic was going to happen. Each photo showed the wife getting worse and worse as her cancer was taking over. The photo that really was heartbreaking is when her husband started shaving her head. From that moment forward it was so real. I felt very sorry for the husband and wife, because no one should have to go through that. Overall, I felt a great about of empathy towards the husband and wife. 2. When the photographer said, "These photographs do not define us, but they are us" he meant that these photos only show the external portion of there lives. Photographs do capture a lot of what is going on around us or happening on the outside of us, but it doesn't capture our character. It cannot show what kind of person we are or our feelings and emotions. Meaning, the wife did struggle with cancer but she wasn't the cancer. She was much more than her battles. 3. I think I could shoot photos like this if I was

Great Black and White Photographers Part 3

1) When I first learned about Ansel Adams, his style of photos caught my eye. I really liked how all of his photos are of landscapes and have different perspectives. However, most of his photos are shot in the American West, so the landscapes can tend to look similar to one another. That is why I picked these two photos. These photos have very different landscapes and a wide variety of nature to look at. Also the perspective on these two appear to be very different. With this, the photos both tell a different story. In the first photo, the wind blowing on the tree allows the image to have a very surreal look to it. Also the image seems to be following the rule of thirds which is very appealing to the eye. In the second photo, the shadow casted on the mountain side gives the picture a very calm mood. The picture captures the idea of a relaxed view of the mountain.                                                                                        I had finally reached the top
