Landscape Photography

1. Where is one place on the internet you might go to better prepare yourself for the location you are shooting at?  Online map service, such as Google Maps. Google Maps show great detail of locations.

2. What is one app you might download to help you when trying to pick the best angle to take landscape photos?  The app Photographer's Ephemeris that will help you predict the angles of sunrise and sunset. Includes features that will tell you the best angles and when to shot your landscape photos.

3. What is the biggest problem shooting with a zoom or telephoto lens?
You want to shoot details from a distance to make the foreground and background to appear to be very close together. The biggest problem with these is they distort the photo , making the sequence harder to put together.
4. Instead of using the HDR method you learned in my class, what is another technique the website suggest would be acceptable for compensating for sky and ground?
A ND grad filter can capture both detail in the sky and landscape. Also digital SLRs and software such as Lightroom 6, mean that you can reclaim the highlight and shadow detail but in a far more natural way.
5. List three things you should always carry in case of bad weather.
A strong waterproof plastic bag to quickly cover the whole camera if weather gets bad. Carry lots of cleaning cloths for the lens and glass and filters, and also a microfibre towel for drying off the camera body and lens.
6. Why would pre-scouting help you when shooting?
You can assemble different elements of that land. Capture different angles of the foreground and background.
7. Is subject or composition more important in landscape photography?
Subject is more important because the subject can influence what composition you will have in your photograph. Do no try to force the subject to conform to the rule.
8. What is the suggested procedure to create simple, yet striking images?
Find a main subject then start to include other elements, usually one at a time for this process. See what will fit in the composition without distracting from the main subject.
9. Why black and white?
Two conditions can produce great black and white photos. First is heavy, cloudy sky, which often produce monochromatic results. The second is when there is fluffy clouds in a bright, blue sky. These produce very different and intriguing black and white photographs.
10. Why would you want to go back to a location you have already been?
This allows you to learn more about how the lighting and weather conditions and seasons combine to make a different look in the same landscape. You can go back and capture composition and subjects you missed before.
