Part 1 - Self-Portrait vs Selfie
1. A selfie is usually taken on a handheld device. It is usually not thought out or planned, it is rather in the spur of a moment in order to capture what you are doing right then and there. The selfie is inherently replaceable and easily disposed if the picture doesn't satisfy oneself. Overall, with selfies there is not too much depth.
2. A self-portrait is usually carefully composed and planned out. Self-portraits are created as pieces of art, usually found in museums. They tend to carry certain ideas or deeper meanings. The artist is usually inspired to create them.
3. I believe there is a subtle difference between a selfie and a self-portrait. An artist can choose to represent themselves through selfies. However, self-portraits don't exactly signify selfies. Therefore, some self-portraits may very well be considered selfies. It all depends on a persons perspective and meaning.
4. I prefer taking selfies, mostly because of the generation I grew up in. I have had access to a smartphone for the majority of my life. Whenever I do something exciting or want to capture a moment I tend to just take out my phone and capture it right in the moment without very much thought. This way is just easier and more natural for me.
5. I don't think one is more valuable than another. They both are good for different purposes and moments, it just all depends on how you want to capture your subject. For example, if you want to create a piece of art you may take a self portrait and really plan out and compose what you are trying to convey. However, if you want to treasure an important moment and take it in short notice selfies are very valuable in that situation.
